1. Yoos-Storage - Backups
Remember to make backups regularly, either manually by copying your data on an external hard disk or via an application such as EasyUs, Handy Backup or FBackup (which use encryption).
2. Yoos-Storage - First Setup / Troubleshooting
Sometimes it can happen that for instance the domain name takes time to propagate or some Internet routers/Internet Service Providers forbid ports to be automatically opened.
You can always contact us to get some help. Here are some steps to troubleshoot this kind of issue.
Domain name issues
-
From the network where the YOOS Server resides, open a web browser and visit https://aettos.link/0ioecr6. It will return your public IP address.
- Now head over to https://aettos.link/wv8tnm8 and fill in your personal domain name. It will translate your personal domain name into an IP address.
- Both values should match. If not, please contact our support.
Opening port issues
- Your Internet router may not support or your Internet Service Provider prevents Hairpinning, or NAT loopback. To verify this, connect to your personal domain name using your phone connected in 4G. If you can access your home page, your Internet router does not support Hairpinning. In this case you will not be able to use your YOOS Server from inside your own network, but you will be able to use it from anywhere else.
- It is possible that your Internet router forbids the port forwarding requested by the YOOS Server. You might have to do it manually as follows:
- 1. Connect to your Internet router configuration page. It is usually either http://192.168.1.1/ or http://192.168.0.1/ depending on your Internet router brand.
- 2. Get the local IP of the YOOS Server. The IP address is often 192.168.1.X or 192.168.0.X with X between 2 and 254.
- 3. Forward ports 2222/tcp (SSH), 80/tcp (Web Server), 443/tcp (Web server), 25/tcp (Mail Transfer Agent), 465/tcp, 993/tcp (IMAP and SMTP) and 1194/udp (VPN) to the local IP of the YOOS Server.
Yoos-Storage - Possible email restrictions
Possible restrictions
Internet Service Providers might consider self-hosted Mail Transfer Agent to be spam. Emails sent by an address like example@<yourdomain>.yoos-storage.com might be bounced. Check with your Internet Service Provider if there are such restrictions in place.
Yoos-Storage - About the VPN
Section 1
Each key should be used on a unique device. Two devices sharing the same key will not be able to connect at the same time. Please log out of the key to make it available to another person
Section 2
Please note that sharing a VPN key is like sharing your house keys. Do not do it unless you really trust the person you want to share with. People using your VPN keys will have a foot inside your home network and will be able to see the devices there. They will also be able to reach the internet as if they are inside your home. And you could be liable if the content they reach violates local laws.
Section 3: VPN profiles modifications
1. To remove unused ovpn profiles on Windows:
1.1. Go to Explorer.
1.2. Go to C:\Users\YourAccount\OpenVPN\config.
1.3. Then remove all unnecessary / unused folders.
2. To rename ovpn profiles on Windows:
2.1. Exit your OpenVPN® GUI.
2.2. Go to C:\Users\YourAccount\OpenVPN\config.
2.3. Enter in one of the ovpn files.
2.4. Rename the ovpn profile.

Yoos-Storage - Root access
You can root your YOOS device!
Rooting your device allows you to download software source code, read software licenses, inspect how our setup is done and add any feature you would like. YOOS does not include support nor replacement for manual modifications of the setup (refer to the Warranty Policy). Modifying the setup will reduce the security that we put in place.
Make modifications only if you know what you are doing!
To proceed, you will need an SSH public key. To do so, generate it by using your favorite Unix distribution's ssh-keygen, or using PuTTY.
You will then need to add that public key into the device authorized keys. To do so, you have two options:
- (Recommended) through Cockpit : Go to the Accounts section of Cockpit using your yoos-admin user. In the Authorized SSH Keys section, add your newly created key.
- (Not Recommended) with a physical access: extract the SD Card and mount it on a Linux computer. Modify the authorized_keys file of the yoos-admin user with your favorite editor and append the ssh public key. Save and eject the card, plug it back to your YOOS device.
You should now be able to SSH into your device through the yoos-admin account using your favorite SSH client:
Host: <yourdomain>.yoos-storage.com
Port: 2222
Username: yoos-admin
Private key: the private part of the key you created
The yoos-admin user is part of the administrators to grant you all the freedom you need to explore and tweak your device to your needs.
